Approaches to Therapy

Ocean Sunset

My therapeutic approach is mainly based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), widely regarded as one of the most effective forms of psychotherapy today, as well as Pastoral Counseling, Person-Centered Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I apply a primarily talk-based approach with attention to how we think about our situations and identifying practical behavioral solutions. Because a positive therapeutic relationship is vital to successful outcomes, I strive to be supportive and empathetic, while appropriately insightful and challenging, to help my clients achieve their goals. Some clients value my background in Christian ministry, but I enjoy working with people of other faiths or no faith—I do not impose my own spiritual perspectives but help clients draw from their own belief and value systems in therapy.
